Keep It Simple
[St. Charles First Assembly of God]

It's been a while since I have written this blog, so hopefully I won't be too long. Lisa and I just returned from celebrating our fortieth anniversery (the actual date is August 8th). It was great to get away to rest, recharge and refocus. Getting away is necessary for all of us to gain new appreciation and perspective on life. I encourage you to make plans to "get away."
Before we left, I asked God to show me what he wanted to do in my life and in our church. The one thought that continually came to me was, "simplicity." Keep it simple. Isn't it amazing how quickly our lives can become so busy and complicated? How quickly life can become complex? At home, at work, in our relationships? I don't know about you, but my life seems to be like a magnet. It attracts a lot of stuff. Most of which are not necessary. When that happens life becomes unclear and can get out of focus. The results are loss of energy, joy, and excitement. My life can become so busy and complex that my relationship with Christ can dwindle and die. That's when my energy and joy are depleted. When that happens, I'm not so sure that I haven't fallen into the trap the evil one has set for me. Jesus said to "keep a simple" attitude about life. He also insinuates that the lack of "keeping it simple" is from the evil one.
"Just say a simple , 'Yes, I will,' or 'No, I won't.' Anything beyond this is from the evil one." (Matthew 7:37)
It sounds easy, right? Not really! It takes discipline and constantly reminding ourselves of what really matters; what really matters in our personal lives and in the life of the church. We must discipline and remind ourselves consistently of "what really matters?" Why are we doing what were doing? Are we adding things that are unnecessary that will take us away from our purpose? To live life with simplicity, to serve and love God with simplicity. Keeping it simple is a reminder to us all.
People have asked why the church is so busy? Good question! We have a lot of people and a lot of things going on. Choose wisely those things to be involved in and to attend. Keep a simple priority list. Those things I "must do", I "should do", and "could do." Keep it simple!
Making An Imprint

It's hard to believe that 2009 is over and we are already into the first seven weeks of 2010. Where did last year go? The Bible makes it clear because we are Christians we look at our past differently. We are to remember the past not with regret or remorse but with gratefulness of what God has done. Remembering with gratefulness prepares me for the present and the future. In human nature we tend to remember things we should forget and we tend to forget things we should remember. We hold on to the cruddy, garbage memories, when we should let go of them and we tend to forget the things we should remember, the lessons we learned through it all.
It’s hard to believe we have been in this building two years and what a wonderful two years it has been. I'm not saying it has not been without it's challenges. We've definitely had many, but those challenges pale in comparison to seeing and hearing how many lives God is changing every week. We receive praise reports regularly of how people are being delivered, homes restored, lives changed, needs met, people healed, men and women who were novice at best at studying the Bible now have hunger for the Word. Others are living out the
We are not perfect and realize that each day everything we do must be examined and do better and pursue excellence in ministry. To provide a spiritual environment where God’s presence can be allowed to influence each of us. To be responsible with the souls of those God gives to us and to those He going to give to us to care for. Realizing all the while we have ministries that need to be strengthened. Ministries to be added and ministries to be changed. We are and will address these needs so that we can continue to make an "imprint" in people lives and in our community.
This is who we are...

As I write this we are in the middle of our "Celebrate Missions" week. Each year we take one week and focus our attention on who we are as a church. Missions isn't something "we do" it is "who we are." Everything we plan and do as a church comes from our core belief that everyone deserves the opportunity to hear about God and be given the opportunity to give their lives to Him. To be given the opportunity to experience life change through Christ.
That's why we do "all church service projects and "extreme makeovers" on the homes of needy families in St. Charles County and Warren County. That's why we do "The Lot" through the summer, which has grown to over 1500 people coming on any given Saturday night. That's why we have facilitated the first Indonesian Church in the area. That's why we opened our "Bridge House" to help men with life addictions to recover and move back into the community and become contributors to society. I could go on and on, but I think you get the point, "missions is who we are!"
As we awaken to the purpose God has for our lives we will never be the same! When we recieve and accept His love and grace it changes everything about us. It changes the way we see ourselves and others! We "want to" tell them. We "want to" love them. We "want to" share Jesus with them. That's missions and that's who we are!
